Champion DTM in 2011 with Audi (and currently with seven victories on his record), the German Martin Tomczyk joined the BMW fold the following year, then back in the discipline, with whom he was however unable to be crowned again. The Munich brand confirmed this Friday that the Rosenheim native would stop his involvement in the German touring championship at the end of the season.

“After 16 years in this series, I thought: is DTM still good for me? Can I continue to have results that match my expectations? explains Tomczyk. I was also able to enjoy several GT races (24 Hours of Spa, Nürburgring…, Editor’s note). It has become much more professional and will continue in this direction.

I believe I can continue to develop as a driver, and be more involved in it. This is why I made this decision and spoke with Jens Marquardt (BMW Motorsport boss) about it. I am delighted to continue working with BMW as we move forward into new motorsport projects together. »

For this weekend's Nürburgring event, Tomczyk's BMW M4 will sport a livery celebrating the brand's 100th anniversary. Remember that the German brand is involved in GT as part of theIMSA Sportscar Championship with the M6 GTLM, but also in GT3, still with the M6, a car that Tomczyk will drive in the Blancpain GT Series finale Endurance Cup at the Nürburgring with ROWE Racing.
