Edoardo Mortara (Audi) set the best time in the first practice session of the DTM on the Hungaroring (Hungary) with a time of 1'36''673. the resident of Team Abt Sportsline preceded Robert Wickens by a tenth (Mercedes) and Nico Müller (Audi), while Mattias Ekström (Audi) followed two tenths behind.
Lucas Auer (Mercedes) finished fifth ahead of Gary Paffett (Mercedes) and Christian Vietoris (Mercedes). Championship leader Marco Wittmann placed the first BMW M6 DTM in 11th position.
Adrien Tambay (Audi) ranked 13th while Maxime Martin (BMW) was only 19th. Antonio Félix da Costa (BMW), the future retiree from the DTM, finished 21st.
