Christian Vietoris (Mercedes) took pole again at the Norisring after having already won qualifying for the DTM on the urban circuit in 2015. The local driver achieved a time of 48''144 to be less than four hundredths ahead of Mattias Ekström (Audi) who completes the first row.
Jamie Green (Audi) and Robert Wickens (Mercedes) follow on the second row ahead of Bruno Spengler (BMW) and Edoardo Mortara (Audi).
Maxime Martin (BMW) will start from 14th position ahead of Adrien Tambay (Audi). Esteban Ocon (Mercedes) was the slowest of the session and will start at the back of the grid in 24th position.
