Robert Wickens scored the first victory of his career in DTM during the 7th round of the year. The Canadian, engaged on a Mercedes Class C Coupé AMG beat Augusto Farfus (BMW M3 DTM), who started from pole position, and Christian Vietoris, also in a Mercedes. Opportunistic during an event disrupted by rain, Mike Rockenfeller (Audi RS 5 DTM) chose to shift his strategy to put on rain tires very early. A winning bet which will allow him to finish 4th, far ahead of Bruno Spengler (BMW M3 DTM), who until now was his direct opponent in the fight for the title. As a result, the German is now 35 points ahead of Vietoris, now second in the Drivers' standings. As for the reigning champion, he is in 4th position with 67 points, while there are only three races to go and 75 points to distribute.

Second at one point in the race, Adrien Tambay (Audi RS 5 DTM), the only Frenchman entered in this category, again obtained an honorable result by finishing 6th.
