The 2011 FIA GT3 European Championship calendar includes six dates, with for the first time the arrival of an international automobile discipline in Russia. A sort of rehearsal before bringing in the GT1 next season. In the meantime, the GT3 field welcomes two new car models: the Mercedes SLS AMG and Ferrari 458 Italy. Finally, ballast, which has been a feature since 2009, has been replaced for 2011 by “time compensation”. For the first three cars and drivers, instead of being allocated 20, 15 and 10 kilos of ballast in each race, they will be penalized in the following race by 15, 10 and 5 seconds, a time which will be added to the minimum duration fixed for each pit stop.

Remember that four categories of drivers are authorized to take the start: Platinum (international-level professionals), Gold (semi-pro or young people aiming for an international career), Silver (amateurs who have won a championship or young drivers without significant track record) and Bronze (gentlemen drivers without significant results and young people participating in their first season).

2011 Calendar : Algarve (POR) May 6-8; Silverstone (GBR) June 3-5; Navarra (ESP) July 1-3; Paul Ricard HTTT (FRA) July 15-17; Smolenskring (RUS) August 20-21; Zandvoort (HOL) October 14-16.
