La Ferrari 458 n°3 of AF Corse driven by Toni Vilander and Filip Salaquarda holds the best time (1'44"508) of the first free practice session in Algarve. The Italian team's crew is seven tenths ahead of the #4 Via18One BMW Z4, victorious in Slovakia with Michael Bartels and Yelmer Buurman. The top three is completed by the Mercedes SLS AMG n°38 from Münnich Motorsport driven by the German crew Marc Basseng and Markus Winkelhock.
