At the Blackbook Motorsport Forum in London, a new step was taken in the project to bring a Chevrolet Camaro from NASCAR on the starting grid of 24 Hours of Le Mans 2023.

The visual identity of the “Garage 56 NASCAR to Le Mans” program was presented on a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 showcar from the Hendrick Motorsports, reigning champion team appointed to lead the project.

It is of course still too early to know the modifications that will be made to this car, but the new regulations introduced this year already offer a solid technical basis with 4 wheels with independent suspension, an 18-inch tire with central nut and a gearbox. sequential speeds. A definition close to European standards, but much more will have to be done to compete with the formidable Porsche, Ferrari et Aston Martin GTE Am, designated project targets. Let's trust the program's conductor, the experienced Chad Knaus, crew chief for seven-time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson, to do what's necessary. Furthermore, a good V8 capable of delivering 800 horsepower helps to chase down the seconds, particularly on the long straight lines at La Sarthe.

On the drivers side, again no announcement but Jimmie Johnson has already expressed his desire to participate in the adventure. Jimmie Johnson: “I want to go to Le Mans” with Garage 56 in 2023

The last two NASCAR champions Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson seem logical choices, but the NASCAR schedule offers no breaks with 32 races back to back each week. Will these title contenders be able to free up two weekends? If not, other drivers within the General Motors fold do not hesitate to express their interest, including Frenchman Tristan Vautier.
