Stefan Mücke imposed his Aston Martin Vantage in the qualifying race. The German started in the lead while Maro Engel and his Mercedes SLS managed to overtake Edoardo Mortara and his Audi R8 LMs just shortly after the flying start. At the same time, proving the best top speed of the Mercedes against the Audi, Renger Van der Zande overtook René Rast for 4th place between the Gran Lapa curve and the Lisboa braking.
Then the Dutchman was unable to attack Mortara, even after a four-lap safety car period following the exit of Adderly Fong's Audi Absolute. Rast finished 5th ahead of the Aston Martins of Lyons and O’Young, in the middle of which Bamber managed to slot in. THE McLaren 650s of Alvaro Parente and Kevin Estre had to settle for 9th and 10th positions, the third of Couto having abandoned on the 12th and final lap.
