Second fastest in the qualifying session for the first race in Moscow, Russia, René Rast (Audi) will finally start in pole position this Saturday, following the five-place penalty for Marco Wittmann (BMW), best time of the session in 1 '27″035.

The propeller brand driver received a third warning during race 2 at the Norisring, effectively giving him a sanction for the first Russian race. Second time in 1'27″155, Rast will therefore start in pole position ahead of a second RS 5 DTM, entrusted to Mike Rockenfeller.

On the second row, Augusto Farfus places the first BMW in third position and will start alongside Timo Glock (BMW). Mattias Ekström (Audi) will start on the third row with Marco Wittmann. Jamie Green (Audi), Tom Blomqvist (BMW), Gary Paffett with the first Mercedes, and French Loïc duval (Audi) complete the top 10 of the session, but the Frenchman will also fall three places for three warnings received.
