Nico Müller (Audi) took pole for Race 1 of the DTM on the Norisring, winning qualifying in the discipline for the second time in his career, and beating Tom Blomqvist's record set in 2017. The Swiss preceded Philipp Eng (BMW) by less than a tenth, while Loïc duval (Audi) took 3rd position ahead of Bruno Spengler (BMW) and championship leader René Rast (Audi).
