Buescher broke away from the last group of 10 drivers still in contention for pole with a best lap of 160,149 mph (257,68 km/h) at the wheel of the No. 17 RFK Racing Ford Mustang.
It thus ends an interminable drought for the emblematic Ford formation as it is the team's first pole position in five years. Buescher is also the fourth driver to score his first career pole this season.
Denny Hamlin (Joe Gibbs Racing) will start alongside him on the front row on Sunday ahead of Hendrick Motorsports teammates Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott. Ryan Blaney (Team Penske) completes the Top 5.
Ross Chastain, winner last week at Talladega Superspeedway, took seventh place.
The drivers will set off on Sunday for 400 laps of the terrible Monster Mile in Dover.
- Segment 1: 120 laps
- Segment 2: 130 laps
- Final: 150 laps
