Gary Paffett (Mercedes) achieved the best time during the first practice session of the DTM at the Nürburgring contested in the rain. With a time of 1'36''959, the Briton beat his compatriot Paul di Resta (Mercedes) by 9 hundredths. The BMW M4 DTMs of Augusto Farfus and Marco Wittmann were the closest. René Rast completed the top five by finishing first Audi driver.
Maxime Martin (BMW) set the 6th fastest time, being the last driver less than a second from the benchmark. Loïc duval (Audi) finished 16th.
