The first two races of the V8 Supercars championship meeting in Auckland in New Zealand smiled on Jamie Whincup (Red Bull Racing Australia? Holden) and David Reynolds (Rod Nash Racing? Ford).

The reigning champion livened up the day, winning the first event starting from pole, to bag his first success since the Sydney meeting last August. However, Whincup can no longer mathematically retain his crown. He finished ahead of Shane van Gisbergen (Tekno Autosports? Holden) and David Reynolds, who took his revenge straight away.

The Australian will impose his Ford Falcon in the second race, resisting pressure from Whincup in the final laps. The race was marked by the puncture of Craig Lowndes (Red Bull Racing Australia? Holden), then in the lead, and who lost big points in the fight for the title against Mark Winterbottom (PRA? Ford), 7th and 4th this Saturday.
