Paul Aron successfully made his debut in Austria, a month and a half after the last meeting at Spa-Francorchamps at the end of July. On the very fast Red Bull Ring, the Prema driver distinguished himself by dominating the entire FRECA field by setting the best qualifying time.

Placed in Group A, the first to take to the track, Paul Aron was not hampered by a less rubberized bitumen compared to that of Group B. Following on from his last pole position in Belgium, the Estonian dominated the timesheet with a better time of 1'26"737, 3 tenths faster than the leader of Group B, Eduardo Barrichello (Arden).

Note the good session of the French like the teammates at RPM, Pierre-Louis Chovet and Owen Tangavelou, who will start Race 1 from 2e line. Maceo Capietto (Monolite), Hadrien David (R-ace GP) and Sami Meguetounif (MP Motorsport) will also be in the Top 10 since they respectively ranked 7e, 8e and 10e.
