Tomoki Nojiri sets pole and lap record at Motegi

Championship leader Tomoki Nojiri dominated the qualifying session at Motegi, scene of the fifth round of the 2021 Super Formula season. The Team Mugen driver set a 1.31:073, the new record at the Motegi circuit. He is ahead of Yuhi Sekiguchi (Team Impul) by 245 thousandths and Nobuharu Matsushita (B-Max Racing Team) by 298 thousandths. Second in the drivers' standings, Toshiki Oyu is in fifth position on the starting grid.
Note the elimination of French driver Giuliano Alesi in Q2 for the first time this season. He will thus start in eleventh position.
