VAR announces the arrival of Tommy Smith in Formula 3

A new face for the championship Formula 3 in 2023. Australian Tommy Smith, 20, will discover the F3 category next year with the Van Amersfoort Racing (VAR) team. He will make his debut in his new car during pre-season testing in Bahrain in mid-February.

In 2021, Tommy Smith made his debut in Europe with a participation in European Formula Regional Alpine, without convincing with a sad 31st place in the championship and no points scored. Alongside his season in FRECA, Tommy participated in the last three rounds of the 3 GB2021 series, returning full-time to this same championship in 2022 where he won his first single-seater race at Spa-Francorchamps. 19th in the GB3 championship, the Aussie will not have the most brilliant CV on the F3 grid next year.

“I am absolutely delighted with this opportunity, rejoiced the Australian following the announcement of his arrival at VAR in 2023. After racing in the FRECA and GB3 championships, moving to FIA F3 seems like the right decision. I am aware that it will be a difficult season in which I will have to constantly learn and adapt, but I am convinced that I am in the right team. The VAR results from their first year in F3 are a clear indicator of their level of commitment, and I can't wait to get started with them! »
