An error with (very) serious consequences. In his fall during the Portuguese Grand Prix, first round of the 2023 season of MotoGP, Marc Marquez fractured the first metacarpal of his right hand, in addition to spoiling his race and those of Miguel Oliveira and Jorge Martin. Penalized by the commissioners for his maneuver, the multiple world champion of the discipline has also penalized himself, since the Spaniard will miss the next event, the Argentine Grand Prix (March 31 – April 2).

In its press release, Honda specifies that after returning to Spain, “Marc Marquez was diagnosed with a displaced intraarticular fracture of the base of the first metacarpal of the thumb of his right hand. Driver no. 93 immediately underwent surgery at the Ruber Internacional hospital in Madrid (…). The operation consisted of closed reduction of the fracture and internal fixation of it using two screws and was carried out without incident. Marc Marquez and the Repsol Honda team have decided that the eight-time world champion will not participate in the next round of the world championship in order to fully concentrate on his recovery and arrive at the next rounds in the best possible condition. »

The identity of his replacement for the Argentine Grand Prix has not been revealed by the Honda team.
