Current second in the European Rally Championship ERC, the German Sepp Wiegand is only 19 points behind his teammate at Skoda and leader of the standings the Finn Esapekka Lappi. Wiegand relies heavily on the asphalt of Rally of Valais, contested this weekend in Switzerland, to maintain the pressure. “My best results this year came each time on asphalt rallies: I got on the podium in Northern Ireland, Belgium and the Czech Republic. This must be the objective in Valais too if I want to keep my chances in the championship intact. »

The German will, however, have the disadvantage of discovering the terrain, on which his Finnish rival won last year. “I only know the ES on video. It reminds me a bit of Monte Carlo, but the roads are narrower in Switzerland and there is no room for the slightest mistake. There are also some gravel sections which will make things more exciting. »
