Unlike his compatriot Francesco Bagnaia, Marco Bezzecchi completely missed his start at Sepang. Starting fourth, the Italian was in 11th position on the first lap before embarking on a strong comeback.

Fourth on the eighth lap, Bezzecchi almost helped Bagnaia to take the crown, if he had managed to take the advantage over fabio quartararo. “I'm very happy, just a small mistake: the departure! he admits. I must admit, with a bit of irony, that I have not yet fully understood how to master this phase of the race. I then stayed focused and attacked to get back up. I was a few tenths off the podium, but the tire was completely worn out and I couldn't do more. The last laps were complicated, but what great work from the whole team. »

Already crowned best rookie of the year, Bezzecchi leaves Malaysia with 106 points on the clock. He occupies 14th place overall. “What a superb comeback from Marco considering that after the start he was 11th,” explains Pablo Nieto, former driver and team manager of the team. He really set an excellent pace and moved up the rankings to reach the podium. He tried, but in the end the tire wear was crazy and he preferred not to take any risks. He confirms that he is among the fastest on the grid and we are very happy with his progress and that of the entire team throughout the year. »

A first for Marini

Luca Marini did not complete the same race. The half-brother of Valentino Rossi indeed suffered from a technical problem linked to its holeshot device at the front. He was therefore unable to reach the finish line for the very first time in his career in MotoGP. “It’s a real shame, we had the potential to fight for the Top 5,” he admits. Immediately after the start, I had a problem with the front holeshot device. It was impossible to continue driving. I arrived very slowly at the first corner, I tried not to disturb the other drivers, then I returned to the pits. That's part of the game: we have a lot of electronics on the bike and a problem like that can happen. I'm sorry. »
