Quartararo, what options for 2023?

Many official team contracts end at the end of the 2023 season and negotiations should be in full swing very soon. If Marc Marquez or Francesco Bagnaia are already assured of their future, this is not yet the case for fabio quartararo.

As long as the Yamaha sports project does not meet the world champion's requirements, the contract with the Iwata firm risks not being renewed. Last March, Lin Jarvis, managing director of Yamaha Moto Racing, assured, however, that extending the collaboration with Quartararo for two years was a priority in response to the Frenchman's various statements in the press about his future.

The Frenchman nevertheless arouses the interest of many factories; Éric Mahé, his agent, did not hide it from us during the winter. Above all, he wants to find the package that will allow his driver to achieve the best possible results.

Among the interested manufacturers are very often cited Honda which seeks to offer the services of the Frenchman to accompany Marc Marquez at Repsol Honda, or even Suzuki. Livio Suppo, recently appointed head of the Suzuki Ecstar team, is well known for his negotiating skills during his time at Ducati and Honda in MotoGP.

Quartararo is now in a strong position and he can afford to wait before rushing, unlike in previous years when certain contracts were signed very early, sometimes even before the opening of the season. The market then often gave rise to grotesque situations where a driver started the season knowing that he would no longer drive for the same manufacturer the following year.

By engaging in a fierce fight against Marquez during the GP of the Americas or by analyzing the performances of Alex Rins in the middle of the powerful Ducatis on the Texan track, the Nice native was able to get a first glimpse of the potential of the RC213V and of the GSX-RR…
