No, Victor Martins was not able to double the lead during qualifying this Friday in Barcelona. Fastest man in free practice earlier today, the ART Grand Prix driver was beaten by Roman Stanek (Trident) in the final moments of the qualifying session.
On the Barcelona track, the Czech stole pole position, the first of his career, from Victor Martins after a final lap in 1'33"516. A final attempt which allowed him to beat his French counterpart by only 52 thousandths! Behind, Alexander Smolyar (MP Motorsport) also believed he would take pole. At a good pace, the Russian was involved in the battle for 1e place but finally lost by 97 thousandths, settling for 3rd place at the finish.
Hadjar in the game
Undoubtedly the most impressive driver since the start of the season in terms of pure speed, Isack Hadjar (Hitech GP) went for another good performance. Spearhead of the British team, the Ile-de-France resident scored a nice 4e place with a lap in 1'33"726. Getting better and better in qualifying, Arthur Leclerc (Prema) completed the Top 5 of the session just over 2 tenths from Roman Stanek's pole.
As for the “pole position” of the reverse grid, it was Zane Maloney (Trident) who won. The Barbadian will lead the peloton in the Sprint Race this Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
