There was a taste of déjà vu in Mexico on Saturday, for the opening round of the championship Formula E. Comme en 2022, Pascal Wehrlein s’est imposé sur l’Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, une victoire tout en maîtrise pour l’Allemand. Parti de la pole position, le pilote Porsche a dominé les débats, ne laissant que peu d’espoirs à son plus proche poursuivant, Sébastien Buemi.
“It’s a very good day with pole position and race victory, commented the winner of the day. We mainly focused on qualifying during the off-season, as it was one of our weaknesses during the last half of last season. I hope we have taken a good step forward. Let's see if it's only in Mexico, or if we can confirm it in the next two events. Nevertheless, I was very happy with the pole position, probably as much as the race victory to be honest! »
Wehrlein sum Porsche from “continue to attack”
Over the seasons, Pascal Wehrlein feels like a fish in water in Mexico: winner in 2022, second in 2023, the ex-driver of F1 is in his garden in the Mexican capital with this new victory in Latin lands. Never really worried at the head of the race – the German only gave up the controls when he took his Attack Mode – the 29-year-old driver nevertheless affirms that he did not have a “easy run”.
“It probably looked easier than it was because I led most of the race and was able to save a lot of energy. I saw Buemi make a mistake behind me, which put him out of the slipstream, and from there the race was a little easier, he emphasized after the race. It's a very good day. Thanks to my team for their hard work, we must continue to attack. »
Continue to attack, the message is given by Pascal Wehrlein to his team, he who had started the 2023 season with two victories and a 2nd place during the first three E-Prix, before falling in the hierarchy and being a simple spectator of the title race. In 2024, the Porsche driver wants to be an actor and is already establishing himself as one of the favorites for the world title. “I definitely had a good feeling during testing at the end of last season, it’s clear we took a step forwardhe concluded. But obviously Mexico is still a special circuit for us. That’s why I’m a little cautious! »
