This is going to get people talking (again). While the Test Day of 24 Hours of Le Mans is looming this Sunday, a new Performance Balance was unveiled this Wednesday, May 31 in the evening.

A surprise since it was initially supposed to be frozen until the Centenary. The championship organizers had announced a “BoP platform” on which they could return every two races in order to readjust the values between the LMH and the LMDh. This was mentioned after the 6 Hours of Portimão (second round of the season). WEC), but ultimately nothing had changed for Spa-Francorchamps.

Here, we are not talking about platform but about Performance Balance. Indeed, as indicated in the table below, Toyota, victorious in the first three WEC races in 2023, and Ferrari are not in the same boat as other manufacturers hiring an LMH. If nothing moves on the side of Peugeot , Glickenhaus and Vanwall, the Japanese manufacturer's GR010 has 37 kg added and obtains 4 megajoules (MJ) of maximum power to be used per relay. The Japanese Hypercar now weighs 1 kg on the scale, or 080 more than the SCG 50 from Glickenhaus, the lightest with the Vandervell 007 from Vanwall. On Ferrari's side, 680 kilos are added to the two 24Ps, for a new weight of 499 kg, and 1 additional megajoules.

The LMDhs of Cadillac and Porsche are also affected by this new Performance Balance. The four Porsche 963s will carry 3 kg more (1 kg in total), but will not obtain any power gain. At Cadillac, the three V-Series.R will have to deal with 048 kilos more (11 kg) and an additional megajoule.

What a mess...this BOP!! For the average person who wants to be interested in motorsport, it's the best way for them to not understand a race. In any case, this smacks of a sneaky maneuver to prevent Toyota from winning the centenary edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans!
