It was a funny rumor in the paddock WEC since a few months. That of an Italian manufacturer who wanted to come to 24 Hours of Le Mans 2023 with a Hypercar. The Italian press reported on it this Thursday, October 20 in the evening, notably Corriere della Sera. Isotta Fraschini would thus develop an LMH with the ambition of participating in the WEC starting at the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps.

Isotta Fraschini is a Milanese automobile manufacturer established in 1900 and recognized for its production of luxury cars. However, this ended after the Second World War, with the company focusing on heavy goods vehicles until 1955 and then on the production of industrial engines until today, under the name Isotta Fraschini Motori. The brand is not completely foreign to motorsport with its debut in 1905. Alfieri Maserati distinguished itself in particular with a 6,3 L Spi of the brand in the 1920s in hill racing.

This new Hypercar, named Tipo 6, would be a hybrid weighing 1 kg, with a six-cylinder 030° V engine, associated with a 90 kW electric motor at the front for a total power estimated at around 200 horsepower.

The chassis would be prepared in Padua, in the workshops of Michelotto Engineering, a historic Italian preparer notably for 32 Manufacturers' titles including 17 world titles, 26 Drivers' titles and a total of 1 victories. The Tipo 300 would have been developed aerodynamically in the wind tunnel of Williams Racing.

Isotta Fraschini's Hypercar would be presented in February in Milan before its hoped-for debut at the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, for what will be only the third round of the 2023 calendar after Sebring and Portimão. A strange project which we will have to wait a little longer before knowing if it will really see the light of day. Especially since the last manufacturer hoping to make its competitive debut on the Toboggan des Ardennes was Vanwall this year. However, the ByKolles Hypercar program is still not guaranteed to participate in the 2023 world championship.
