After Delage in 2023, IDEC Sport has once again joined forces with a legendary brand in motorsport and 24 Hours of Le Mans : Matra. The French manufacturer announced a partnership alongside the French team for the European Le Mans Series season (ELMS) and for the 24 2024 Hours of Le Mans, on the sidelines of the Rétromobile show in Paris on January 31.

On this occasion, the two entities presented their 2024 livery this Tuesday, mixing history and modernity, with a particular tribute to the Matra MS670B which won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1974, just 50 years ago. The Oreca No. 28 mainly sports a dark metallic blue, highlighted by a touch of gold, which starts from the nose of the car and stretches out to the sides, as well as to the sides of the rear wing. The white that was present on the MS670B from 1974 graphically encompasses the cockpit.

“We started from the 70s, with the famous blue, which we wanted to be modern and deep. We therefore opted for the metallic side, explains Paul Lafargue, IDEC Sport driver and son of the team manager, Patrice Lafargue. There is also the white line on the side and the white cockpit, which could be seen on the Matras of the time. There was green, red and yellow to differentiate them, we chose gold. It is a tribute to victory, to medals, to trophies. To apply these choices, we were divided, we were thinking of something modern, which can be found in LMP2, or retro to respect the history of Matra. We decided to have a good mix. (…) The objective was not to surprise, but to rekindle a flame. »

The No. 28 Oreca will participate in the European Le Mans Series but also in the 24 2024 Hours of Le Mans with its trio of drivers Paul Lafargue – Reshad de Gerus – Job Van Uitert, in the LM P2 category. Last year, Paul-Loup Chatin placed the French car in pole position in the LM P2 in Sarthe, before finishing in 6th place at the finish.
