Little Le Mans disrupted because of Hurricane Ian?

Will the 2022 edition of Petit Le Mans reach the end of its ten hours? (IMSA photo)

The United States is watching with concern the arrival of Category 4 Hurricane Ian. After western Cuba, he was expected in Florida early in the afternoon local time. Forecasts estimate that it will then move landward where it could reach Category 5, the highest on the Saffir-Simpson scale (hurricane classification scale), before emerging over the Atlantic west through the state of Georgia.

The leaders of theIMSA obviously keep an eye on it, with Petit Le Mans, final round of the season, scheduled for this Saturday, October 1 at Road Atlanta (Georgia). Estimates predict heavy rainfall on Friday and Saturday. In 2015, Petit Le Mans was interrupted two hours before its end, with an overall victory for a GTLM, the Porsche 911 RSR n°911 of Richard Lietz, Patrick Pilet and Nick Tandy, in front of the prototypes.

The possibility exists to postpone the event to the next day if necessary, although local regulations prevent action on the track between 10 a.m. and noon on Sunday. The circuit is also reserved from Monday for a common test for the four manufacturers registered in the GTP category for 2023 (Acura, BMW, Cadillac, Porsche).
