New decisive meeting in Miami between Andretti and F1

At the very beginning of the year, the promoters of the Formula 1 slammed the door in Andretti's face. According to them, the American firm would not bring added value to the discipline… “While the Andretti name is recognized by F1 fans, our research indicates that F1 would bring value to the Andretti brand rather than vice versa”, we find in a document published by the FOM at the time of the announcement.

Mario Andretti does not give up and continues to exert pressure on the world of Formula 1. At the beginning of April, Andretti Global announced the opening of a new infrastructure at Silverstone Park, one more step to promote entry of the American brand in the Formula 1 World Championship.

A few weeks ago, the 1978 world champion confided that a “key meeting” should take place between Andretti and FOM. An announcement verified since the two parties planned to see each other this weekend during the Miami Grand Prix.

“We only had one meeting with them (the FOM, Editor’s note). It's a problem, we haven't had enough, explained Mario Andretti to the Associated Press agency. This is one reason why I am really looking forward to our next meeting. We need to sit down because some opportunities have been missed along the way, but we must now look forward and not back. »

Andretti/F1, marriage still possible?

The door does not yet seem completely closed for Andretti. The American team, which has already proven itself in numerous disciplines, continues to prove to F1 promoters that the project presented is very real.

“I remain hopeful, because we never stop working in this direction, reassures Mario Andretti. It's clear that our work is moving at a brisk pace, and as you can see, we're not just talking. We assemble the brick with the mortar. We showed it with the team which is already in place at Silverstone. We will tell them (during the Miami meeting, Editor’s note) : “We will do whatever you ask. We will do everything possible. Now, if you think of anything, tell us. » »

Andretti can still count on the support of General Motors, which will not abandon him in this project any time soon. “General Motors has made it clear that it is enthusiastic about this project, assures the big boss. They're in it for the long term and I don't know what else we can do. »

The following weeks are likely to be particularly decisive regarding the entry, or not, of Andretti Global into Formula 1.
