Guerlain Chicherit took the decoration of his Toyota Hilux T1+, inspired by the American series “The Man Who Falls Right”. The Savoyard indeed performed quite a stunt despite himself during the penultimate stage of the Rally from Morocco 2023 to Merzouga.

Starting like a bullet, which is usual, the Japanese 4×4 set the best times during the first partials. A harbinger of a first stage victory aboard the vehicle?

Well no. “Like every day, we started off at a very good pace, declared Guerlain Chicherit upon his return to the bivouac. We were riding very well, with the intention of achieving a good result. And then, in a series of bumps, we didn't understand each other with Alex (Winocq, his co-pilot). The note came too late. “Danger 2” was announced while we were already there. I couldn't brake in time. »

Two rolls later, Chicherit-Winocq landed on the roof. Unharmed, they were turned upright by an amateur competitor at the wheel of a Prodrive Hunter.

« It's disappointing because it was a miscommunication between us, not because we were simply going too fast, on the attack, continues the winner of the 2022 Rally of Morocco. It's even more annoying than going out because of a major attack. » Guerlain Chicherit and Alex Winocq have no injuries, unlike the Toyota, whose chassis is damaged, and therefore unable to finish the event.

Furthermore, Guerlain Chicherit in no way blames its navigator Alex Winocq. The two men have known each other for a long time, and have been inseparable since the return of the pilot from rallycross in rally raid, in 2021. You cannot win the 2022 Morocco Rally, the 2021 Silk Way Rally as well as two stages of the 2023 Dakar without having good osmosis and a good working relationship in the passenger compartment.

“At km 170, we were in the lead, with a good lead of one minute over Loeb. Speed was good. The positive thing is that every day we were in the right rhythm with a car that we were discovering. Now we have to manage to put everything together. »
