Mark Miller (Volkswagen) wins his first Dakar stage victory on the road to Antofagasta in Chile. The American is ahead Carlos Sainz (Volkswagen) of 2'10" and Nasser Al Attiyah (Volkswagen) of 4'27".
While morning leader Stéphane Peterhansel (BMW) has not yet finished the special, Carlos Sainz is assured of taking first place in the general classification on the evening of this fifth stage ahead of Al Attiyah and Miller. Fourth, Robby Gordon (Hummer) is almost an hour behind.
