Al-Attiyah and Baumel clear winners of the 2019 Silk Way Rally

This is an unprecedented statistic in the history of this event, which over recent years has become the flagship rally-raid of the summer. In addition, the Qatari pilot and his French navigator had never brought home the winner's trophy of the Rally of the Silk Road (its name translated into the language of Molière). The Belgian structure Overdrive finally wins the Silk Way Rally for the first time.

“I’m so happy to finally win this Silk Way Rally after finishing second twice, said Nasser Al-Attiyah. This is so close to my heart because it is a great and very beautiful race that is important to have in your list of achievements. We crossed three very different countries, with totally varied terrain and stages. I will remember the first stop in China for a long time.

I think it’s one of the most difficult of my career. Winning all the stages from the start is simply the icing on the cake, which adorns our seventh victory in a row this season. It is the fruit, of course, of the work of an entire team and of course of my co-pilot, Mathieu without whom all this would not be possible... »

The crew therefore won the 10th and final stage, 255 km long and routed through canyons and valleys. Upon arrival this Tuesday, July 16 near Dunhuang (China), the Toyota Hilux 4×4 is 1 hour 11 minutes ahead of the Geely-badged SMG buggy of the Chinese Han Wei and Min Liao. Third place is occupied by Jérôme Pelichet and Pascal Larroque on their Optimus buggy.
