Dakar – Al-Rajhi gets back into the game, Al-Attiyah remains in the lead

Yazeed Al-Rajhi offered the first stage victory in Toyota at the Dakar 2015 by winning the eighth special contested for cars between Uyuni (Bolivia) and Iquique (Chile). The Saudi completed the course in 3h26, one minute ahead of Orlando Terranova (Mini) and two minutes ahead of Nasser Al-Attiyah (Mini).

The Qatari maintains the lead of the event by beating Giniel de Villiers (Toyota) by only 13 seconds following a puncture and brake failure for the Hilux driver. The South African thus remains the leader's closest rival with less than nine minutes behind.

Stéphane Peterhansel places his Peugeot less than four minutes from the reference time, behind the Minis of Krzysztof Holowczyk and Nani Roma, and remains less than two hours from the leader. Bernhard Ten Brike (Toyota) remains fifth in the provisional general classification even though he lost half an hour after getting stuck in the sand.
