Dayraut “couldn’t do better”

Jean-Philippe Dayraut, from the Andorra round, has just amazed again with his driving skills on ice or, in this case, on melted ice revealing the bitumen. The Haut-Garonnais, despite 80 kg of ballast (40 kg for his two titles, 40 kg for his 2nd place in the 2nd race in Val Thorens), had the best time in the qualifying heats of the first race in Andorra, before to win his final, against Franck Lagorce (Skoda Fabia) and Alain Prost (Dacia Duster).

“We couldn’t have done better. We won? with 80 kg of ballast! Now we will have 100 kg of ballast. We'll see how it goes, the driver of the BMW prepared by Saintéloc told AUTOhebdo.fr. But it?s very difficult. 20 kg, you don't feel them but, from 40 kg, it's a handicap. 100 kg will be a lot, I won't be able to win. It's time for me to lighten up a bit. »

However, Jean-Philippe Dayraut thinks that the ballast did not penalize him too much because of his tire choices. “This weekend there is a complicated tire strategy. We are the opposite of everyone else in terms of strategy. Today, it could work like finishing 15th. »

In addition, the two-time reigning champion believes that this Andorran victory allows him to see the season with confidence. “I always perform better on January circuits than December ones,” he tells us. Once again, Jean-Philippe Dayraut will be the man to beat this winter.
