Cyril Desprès and explorer Mike Horn will team up for the second consecutive year at the Dakar from January 3, 2021 at the wheel of a Peugeot DKR.
So far, a great classic. But the car will be equipped with a data acquisition system which will make it possible to launch the Gen-Z project.
Indeed, the two men have the ambition to win the Dakar in 2023 in a vehicle equipped with a fuel cell powered by hydrogen.
The project began in February 2020, just after the arrival of their first joint Dakar. They teamed up with Vaison Sport, a company based in Burgundy, specializing in the construction of competition prototypes and approached the Atomic Energy and Alternative Energies Commission (CEA) to develop a battery powerful enough for Gen- Z to be as competitive as a thermal vehicle.
The car’s engine will be developed using data collected at the 2021 Dakar. It is time that the world rally-raid auto becomes aware of its environmental impact. I am happy to embark on my 21st Dakar alongside my friend Mike Horn with this project which could revolutionize the world of motor sports. It’s a motivation that goes well beyond the sporting aspect” rejoices Cyril Despres.
Both men had to abandon their first Dakar in 2020.
