Hyraze League: a hydrogen series from 2023

The 24 hours of Le Mans Would they be outplayed? The ACO wishes to integrate a hydrogen category in 2024 based on the development of the LMPH2G car currently underway.

But a handful of promoters intend to get ahead of it by creating the Hyraze League from 2023, the first series dedicated to hydrogen cars.

ADAC GT Masters fans were particularly able to note the live broadcast on YouTube of a conference this Tuesday on the future of motorsport in Stuttgart. It resulted in the announcement of the creation of the Hyraze league.

But what are we talking about? Already, the initiative comes from important structures in the world of motorsport.

The companies ADAC and DEKRA (well known in German GT and tourism), the German Motorsport Federation, the team of Formula 2 et Formula 3, Schaeffler, title sponsor of Audi in Formula E and the World Esports Association (WESA) are teaming up to create this series. Heavy !

They want to build a car that is almost environmentally neutral, whether in terms of the transmission, tires, brakes but also the chassis. “The teams will be free in the choice of design, without reference to production and the regulations will ensure that there is no costly competition on aerodynamics” detail the designers.

Formula E... But much more efficient, the partners promise.

The cars will develop a power equivalent to 800 horsepower. The series also promises energy more suited to motor racing. In sprint races, drivers will be able to use the maximum power of the car throughout the event. The tanks will also be very quick to fill, like diesel or gasoline ones, which will make it possible to organize endurance races.

If you have remembered the partners carefully, you will have noticed the presence of e-sport. The Hyraze League also wants to innovate by combining real and virtual worlds. During the competition, each crew will consist of a professional driver and a simracer, who will compete in a real race and a virtual race. They will both count equally in the championship.

The different partners will have a very specific role. WESA will take care of the virtual part, while the German federation and ADAC will be responsible for drawing up “clear and professional” regulations to establish this revolutionary series worldwide. »

The car will for its part be developed by HWA AG which will be responsible for making a racing car without aerodynamic downforce. DEKRA will mainly take care of car safety and Schaeffler will deal with electrical components.

If the ambition of the Hyraze League comes to fruition, there is no doubt that the ACO will face tough competition.
