Kristoffersson wins in Canada, Loeb saves the podium
The first mixed day in Canada on the Trois-Rivières route is already forgotten for Johan Kristoffersson.
The driver of the Volkswagen Polo – PSRX VW Sweden, only ninth yesterday after the first two qualifying rounds, reversed the situation this Sunday by winning the last two qualifying rounds, his semi-final then the final and thus offering himself a sixth success in seven races in 2018.
The world champion beat both in the final Peugeot 208 WRC – Team Peugeot Total of Timmy Hansen and Sébastien Loeb. The Frenchman saved a podium which seemed to be off to a bad start after a semi-final marked by contact with the wall and a spin which forced Loeb to start from the last row in the final.
Despite contact with Petter Solberg (Volkswagen Polo – PSRX VW Sweden) at the first corner, the nine-time world rally champion made his way to finally regain the advantage at the end of his wild lap on the Audi S1 – EKS RX by Mattias Ekström.
But the Frenchman will undoubtedly regret his starting position in the final, he who displayed a leading pace throughout the weekend.
Solberg and Janis Baumanis (Ford Fiesta – STARD) complete the top 6 in the final. With this victory, Johan Kristoffersson now has 195 points in the general classification, 55 points ahead of Loeb and Timmy Hansen.
The next World RX event will take place in Lohéac in Brittany at the beginning of September.
