Projekt E car revealed in Latvia

We knew its technical characteristics, but we had never seen it on a real scale. IMG, promoter of the World Championship of Rallycross and STARD, Manfred Stohl's entity at the helm of the project, unveiled this Friday the Projekt E car, which is to bring electric propulsion to World RX in 2020 on certain European rounds.

“Today we have reached a turning point in the future of production car-based motorsport with the presentation of the race car that will be fielded in the electric support series in 2020, comments Paul Bellamy, vice-president of IMG.

Electrification in the automotive industry is advancing at a rapid pace and we are extremely proud to be pioneers in the field of automotive racing for production vehicles.

The car unveiled today is the result of several months of collaboration with our technical partner, STARD. This work has focused on the development of electrical technologies, charging and safety systems for Projekt E racing cars.

The car looks amazing from the outside, but what really matters is underneath the bodywork. Rallycross is known for its fast starts and intense wheel-to-wheel action. The cutting-edge technology powering the Projekt E race car will produce levels of torque never before seen in rallycross.

It’s an exciting time for rallycross. Our goal with the new race weekend format for 2020, with the inclusion of Projekt E, is to allow rallycross fans to enjoy traditional internal combustion engines, while giving them an idea of the 'future. »

Remember that this car is based on a Ford Fiesta STARD chassis featuring the REVolution powertrain, offering 613 hp (450 kW) and above all an almost instantaneous torque of 1100 Nm.

The current cars entered in the Supercars category can be converted with the kit provided for this purpose.
