Peterhansel fair play: “We don’t deserve to be in front”

Stéphane Peterhansel (Mini) doesn't give up. The record holder for Dakar victories (13 successes on motorcycles and cars) achieved the best time during the seventh stage of the 2019 Dakar, held on Monday January 14 around San Juan de Marcona (Peru).

“For me, it was the hardest stage of the rally, with more than 100 km of dunes and complicated way-points to search, indicates the former Yamaha rider and Peugeot in rally raid. At the end of the course, there was a lot of fesh-fesh, as if clouds were lifting. »

Stéphane Peterhansel takes a small step closer to the general classification with his co-driver David castera, now 29'16'' behind the leaders Nasser Al-Attiyah-Mathieu Baumel (Toyota). Mais selon le Français, l’écart reste trop important.

“We are getting a little closer to Nasser but we still have a long way to go to get first place. In fact we don't deserve to be in front because he had a really good race, he didn't make a single mistake.", he admits, a good player.

However, the stage could have turned into a tragedy when hitting a dune. « We destroyed the hood and especially our necks. I had stars in my eyes. It was a great impact, which in my opinion will leave some muscle aches. »
