Pikes Peak – Sébastien Loeb attacks very hard

The French are in high spirits at Pikes Peak! In this first part of the qualifications, which is run in the “Departure? Glen Cove", the three French drivers racing in "Unlimited" stood out at the forefront, constantly being in the top 4. In front, unsurprisingly, we find Sébastien Loeb. On his Peugeot 208 T16, the nine-time rally champion is simply impregnable: he achieved his best time in 3:26:153 with an average speed of 90 mph (144 km/h). This is far ahead of his compatriot Romain Dumas, who is fighting very well on his prototype Norma: he signed his best run in 3:43:556. Winner last year, Rhys Millen is in third position of the day in 3:51:814. For his third participation, Jean-Philippe Dayraut is the last of the four competitors to have gone under the 4 minute mark, with a 3:55:218 as the best time.

Satisfied with its performance, Peugeot Sport decided to stop there for today, where some competitors still have the possibility of running. Concerning the qualifications, they take place in three stages, from Wednesday to Friday, each time on three different sectors of the famous Colorado climb. It is the addition of the best results from each session which will decide the running order on Sunday, race day, the only day where the competitors will tackle the climb from start to finish.
