For the first time in 11 years, Bakkerud does not have a contract

For the first time since his debut in 2014, Andreas Bakkerud will not be at the start of a round of the world championship of rallycross. The Norwegian driver will indeed miss the Barcelona meeting (July 24/25), the first of the 2021 World RX season.

Due to lack of budget due to the health and economic crisis, Andreas Bakkerud was unable to commit to a full campaign, regardless of the discipline. A first for him in his 11-year career.

« This is the first year where I have not signed any contract, with any team and in any championship, he explains on his YouTube channel. Personally, it's a big disappointment. I would have loved to enter a championship and especially the World RX which I try to win every year without having succeeded yet.

I worked hard to get involved but ultimately decided against it. (...) If we had a big budget we would have definitely looked into the possibility but I didn't want to take an even bigger risk».

A seven-time World Rallycross Championship winner, Andreas Bakkerud has raced for Hoonigan Racing Team, EKS and more recently for GCK, the team of Frenchman Guerlain Chicherit, and lost the title to Timmy Hansen in 2019 after finishing a tie on points (211).

Without a team or a car at the moment, the 29-year-old Norwegian is not giving up and is confident for the future. He even sees himself discovering new adventures. “ I always believe that when one door closes, another opens, so who knows what will happen next year?

Maybe I would do the Dakar, maybe I would be back in rallycross. I'm already going to try to do it this year by possibly committing to a round but I haven't signed anything at the moment so I'm open to anything ».
