Second in Saturday's final, Mattias Ekström came back strong this Sunday. Faced with his compatriot Johan Kristoffersson, the Swede managed to climb to the highest step of the podium.
Before the start, the Audi S1 driver decided to put on new tires, probably to suspend Kristoffersson from the start. A profitable choice since he only needed two turns to take the reins.
What followed was a great fight with Johan Kristoffersson. Under threat from the world championship leader, Mattias Ekström did not do him any favors and always left the door closed, forcing his rival to stay behind him until the checkered flag.
In Riga, Mattias Ekström took his second victory of the season and showed that he is the only entry who can stand up to Johan Kristoffersson this year. In the world rankings, he is second, 17 units behind his runner-up of the day.
