GC Kompetition was unsuccessful last weekend on the Norwegian track of Hell. For the first time since its debut in World RX, no Renault Mégane RS RX only entered the semi-finals. The cars created by Prodrive had the potential to finish in the Top 12, but both Supercars suffered from mechanical problems.
“We had clutch and gearbox problems, confirmed pilot boss Guerlain Chicherit to AUTOweekly. We have made modifications to the mapping, the accelerator belt or the “shift cut” (cutting off the accelerator during gear changes). We will have a two-day test session in Sweden before the Höljes event to rework the mapping in particular. Gearboxes and clutches will also be checked. »
If the French team is in last position in the Teams' Championship, 17 points behind Olsbergs MSE, it is not losing hope for the rest of the season by relying on the potential of the Renault Mégane RS RX.
“It’s the last tenths that are the hardest to find, recalled Guerlain Chicherit. I knew the circuit a little after riding on it last year. Jérôme already had good foundations after playing in the European Championship. The Mégane performed very well in the first sector and we were able to move within three tenths of the best. The weekend was stable in terms of conditions and we were able to learn a lot for the future. »
GC Kompetition will wait a few more rounds before considering fielding a third model in World RX. The French structure could strengthen its crew during its national round in Lohéac (September 1), in Austin (September 29) and in the final in Killerney (November 24).
“We will release the car when it is ready, but for the moment we prefer to concentrate on those already engaged. We must offer a mount with the required level. The objective is always to be able to line up in the final for each event. It will be difficult, but we will work hard to get there”, promised Guerlain Chicherit.
