Kristoffersson starts strong in Riga

Johan Kristoffersson (Volkswagen) begins the World RX meeting in Riga as usual, crushing the competition. The Championship leader won both qualifying heats on Saturday and is ahead of Mattias Ekström (Audi). The VWs and Audis seem effective on the Bikernieki circuit since Petter Solberg (Volkswagen) and Andreas Bakkerud (Audi) complete the leading quartet ahead of Sébastien Loeb (Peugeot ).

The nine-time champion of WRC showed good potential by notably setting the 2nd time in Q1, 9 thousandths behind Johan Kristoffersson, but was only able to achieve the 11th time in Q2 after contact with the wall, a consequence of the fight at the start with Petter Solberg. The Sochaux manufacturer was unsuccessful since Timmy Hansen suffered a mechanical breakdown in Q2, which relegated him to 12th position, while his brother Kevin was only in 17th place after also experiencing problems.

The Hyundai of Niclas Grönholm and Timur Timerzyanov surround the Ford of Toomas Heikkinen which is in 7th place. Janis Baumanis (Ford) occupies 9th place ahead of the Renault of Liam Doran and Guerlain Chicherit had little success in the fights at the first corner. Timo Scheider (Audi) is the first in the eliminated zone. The German is ahead of Nico Müller (Audi).

Q3 of the World RX in Riga should be contested from 9:35 a.m. and will be followed with live streaming on AUTOhebdo.fr.
