The E-WRX will be well contested with a common chassis

The FIA World Council has confirmed the transition of the World RX to electric from 2020. As we indicated to you in AUTOhebdo, the cars will be based on a common Silhouette-type chassis. This chassis will be designed by Oreca, the only supplier established until 2023.

The four-wheel drive mounts will be powered by two electric motors (front and rear axle) and will also have a common battery developing 500kW designed by Williams, the only supplier also under contract for four seasons.

The Federation clarified that the regulations concerning transmission had been influenced by those used in Formula e but that restrictions would be applied to limit costs and development.

Private structures will be able to homologate their own cars on the condition that they use the common chassis and battery and that the body design corresponds to a model validated by the FIA.

On the other hand, the sporting regulations will not change even if the option of offering more races after the qualifying rounds has been studied. Each meeting will always include four qualifying rounds, two semi-finals and a final, over a season which will include between 12 and 14 events.

The FIA will set up a Manufacturers' Championship in addition to the Drivers' Championship which will replace the Teams' Championship currently in force. This classification ranking will be established from the four best results obtained for each manufacturer per event. The E-WRX will still offer privateers a Team Trophy.
