World RX will go to Spa in 2019

After F1 or WEC, it is a third major motorsport world championship which will complete the calendar of events on the circuit of Spa-Francorchamps in 2019.

The promoter of the World Rallycross Championship World RX confirmed this Friday that the Ardennes route will replace the Jules Tacheny circuit in Mettet, previously visited by rallycross jousts since 2014, as of 2019.

The development of the track will take the legendary Raidillon de l'Eau Rouge for the occasion, in a configuration which has yet to be defined. The date of the event is not yet known and the contract is announced as long-term between the promoter and the managers of the Belgian route.

James Taylor, vice president of rallycross at IMG (promoter of World RX), says that “Spa-Francorchamps shares (her) vision to create modern festivals focused on motorsport. Being able to include Eau Rouge in the rallycross circuit is the icing on the cake. »

The President of the Spa-Francorchamps circuit board, Melchior Wathelet, for his part, would like to point out that “IMG's ambitions for the World RX are completely in line with (its) desire for development, with a show on the track, real proximity to the public and activities off the track. »

The World RX thus continues its opening on the most legendary circuits with Barcelona, Silverstone, Hockenheim, all part of the F1 calendar. The 2019 season will also see the arrival of a track in Abu Dhabi.
