PSRX Volkswagen Sweden releases the World RX

PSRX Volkswagen Sweden will not be present in World RX next year. Petter Solberg's team chose to "pause" its program after seeing its direct opponents Audi et Peugeot leave the stage of the World Championship Rallycross.

“Unfortunately, the loss of competitors in FIA World Rallycross means that PSRX Volkswagen Sweden will not return in 2019. The team, its partners, Volkswagen Motorsport and Sweden will focus on other areas and other series in motorsport.”, confirms the press release.

“It’s really unfortunate, but the loss of manufacturers in the series made it impossible for us to stay in 2019, explained PSRX Team Principal Pernilla Solberg. You can't imagine how proud I am of what we have managed to achieve. It's incredible to see how far we've come over the past two years and what has been created in just a few days. We wrote a fantastic story together and we will never forget it. »

It also marks the end of Johan Kristoffersson's supremacy with Volkswagen, the two-time reigning world champion having been virtually untouchable in recent months.

“I have loved every minute of the last two years with this incredible team. I can't believe how quickly this has gone by and I could never have imagined achieving this much success. It has been a privilege to work and live at PSRX Volkswagen Sweden. I'm obviously disappointed not to get back behind the wheel of the Polo R Supercar next year, but I completely understand the decisions taken. If we don't have enough people to run, what can we do? », asks the Swede.

Same story with boss-driver Petter Solberg who is putting his Rallycross career on hold and who wants to emphasize that this announcement is not definitive.

“We can all see the potential, but it was clearly not reasonable to continue with PSRX Volkswagen Sweden in 2019, confirmed the 44-year-old Norwegian. The most important thing is to understand that it is only a break and not an end. We continue to work together. We can't say too much, but there will be things to talk about in the new year, but I can say that I will stay behind the wheel of a Volkswagen... I continue to believe in World RX and that this championship has the means to 'to offer the most exciting races in the world. »

Petter Solberg had participated in the debut of the Polo GTI R5 in competition at Rally from Spain last October. As for Johan Kristoffersson, the Scandinavian could concentrate on the circuit where he also shines as proven by his coronation in STCC won this year with the German manufacturer.
