Untouchable. Johan Kristoffersson (Volkswagen Polo GTi – PSRX VW Sweden) left no chance to his opponents during the final stages of the final meeting of the season in Cape Town, South Africa.
The world champion largely dominated the final, winning for a seventh time this year ahead of Timmy Hansen (Peugeot 208 WRX – Team Peugeot-Hansen). But all eyes were on Mattias Ekstrom (Audi S1 – EKS RX) and Petter Solberg (Volkswagen Polo GTi – PSRX VW Sweden), with the fight for second place in the championship.
Fighting for third place in the final, the two rivals did not give up a single inch, and Ekström finally finished third in front of the double world champion in the discipline to win the honorary title of 2017 vice-champion.
With four points behind before the last confrontation, and despite the attempted help of his teammate Kristoffersson in the semi-final, Solberg was unable to get rid of the Audi S1 driver. Timo Scheider (Ford Fiesta – MJP Racing Team Austria) follows in fifth position, while Kevin Hansen (Peugeot 208 – Team Peugeot-Hansen), drafted after the semi-finals after the exclusion of Ken Block, quickly dismounted.
The French Cyril Raymond, already titled, won in the RX2 category.
