World RX – Sandström will debut with EKS in Belgium

Edward Sandström will drive the Audi S1 entered by EKS RX Team during the Belgian round held on July 12 and 13 on the Jules Tacheny circuit. The 35-year-old Swede will replace his compatriot Mattias Ekström who will not be able to make the trip, held back by the race DTM organized in Moscow. “I first met Edward in 1994 when we were racing in the Junior Cup. Our careers took different paths in the years that followed, but we remained close, a friendship was built, and we are now neighbors in Salenstein (Switzerland). Edward proved that he is fast enough to drive an RX car during testing in Höljes (Sweden) and I am confident that he will perform very well in the Audi S1 EKS RX. »

If Edward Sandström has a diverse track record in touring races, the driver entered this season by Saintéloc Racing in the Pro category of Blancpain Endurance Series insists that the Rallycross will be a discovery for him. “This is my first experience in Rallycross, but I have always enjoyed driving different cars in various conditions, whether on ice, dirt or asphalt. This corresponds well to World RX which is a discipline which combines speed and adrenaline and which requires making rapid decisions. I immediately felt comfortable behind the wheel of the Audi S1 and I am confident for Belgium after my test in Höljes. In order to be fully prepared, I will return to Sweden this weekend for the fifth round of World RX (held in Höljes) and I will follow the procedures closely. »
