World RX – Sébastien Loeb takes the lead at Hockenheim

The Peugeot 208 WRX from Team Peugeot-Hansen seem to have clearly found color again. On German soil, not far from his native Alsace, Sébastien Loeb took advantage of the good form of his mount to prove irresistible this Friday during the first day of the Hockenheim event.

Winner of the two qualifying rounds contested today, the nine-time world champion logically finds himself at the top of the provisional ranking before Q3 and Q4 tomorrow.

The Frenchman precedes the Volkswagen Polo GTi – PSRX VW Sweden of Johan Kristoffersson, second in Q1 and third in Q2, following the former king of the planet rally ahead of the two other 208s from Team Peugeot-Hansen of Timmy and Kevin Hansen.

The other championship favorites did not have as clear a day as that of Sébastien Loeb. Untouchable in Barcelona and Montalegre, the world champion Mattias Ekstrom (Audi S1 – EKS RX), also entered in DTM this weekend on the Hockenheim track, is only ninth in the provisional ranking, with a ninth and an eighth place this Friday.

Even more difficult situation for Petter Solberg. The PSRX – VW Sweden driver was involved in a collision with the Ford Focus RS RX – Hoonigan Racing Division of Andreas Bakkerud in Q2, and took 21st place in the round.

The double world champion from 2014 and 2015 is only 14th this evening, and is not yet qualified for the semi-finals. In the French clan, Jean-Baptiste Dubourg (Peugeot 208 – DA Racing) is in 11th place, while Guerlain Chicherit has only placed his Renault Clio only in 21st and penultimate position.
