Carlos Sainz will have time to rest. Victim of an accident during the 9e stage of the Dakar 2023, the Matador was forced to retire both by the damage to his Audi RS Q e-tron and to his body. Indeed, the consequences of his rollover in the Saudi desert are significant since the Spaniard left Saudi Arabia with an injury and not the least.

Via a press release, the Audi driver confirmed that medical examinations taken upon his return to Madrid revealed a fracture of the T5 and T6 vertebrae. “ When I returned to Madrid from the Dakar, the back pain after what happened lasted longer than usual, confided Carlos Sainz. Following the doctors' recommendations, I underwent additional tests to accurately assess the extent of the injury.

Unfortunately, the results were not good since I have fractured T5 and T6 vertebrae. The good news is that both vertebrae are stable and from today my priority is to recover as quickly as possible. Thank you all for your support and affection received over the last few days. I'll keep you up-to-date."

After an eventful Dakar, it's time to rest for Carlos Sainz who, at 60 years old, must necessarily be more careful than the young drivers, especially since he only competes in rally-raid currently, whether with Audi at the Dakar or his own team in Extreme E. You will also need to monitor how your situation evolves during the recovery period. One thing is certain, the Spaniard will have to take some time to think about whether he can continue his career or not, because these are things we don't joke about. What about Audi's position in this scenario at a time when Stéphane Peterhansel is also considering retirement. An opportunity for Sébastien Loeb ?
