Friday January 1, 8 a.m. While the average party-goer is sprawled on the sofa bed provided by their hosts, promising themselves to return home soon, tens of thousands of people are hitting the streets between Place de la Concorde and Porte Maillot, in the early gray morning of this night like no other. Some have bright eyes, others have dull eyes and a Gainsbourg-style beard, but they all have one and the same goal: to witness the departure of the 374 “sick people” who are attempting the 4th Paris-Algiers-Dakar adventure.
